BURBANK, Calif.—The Armenian National Committee of America-Burbank (ANCA–B) endorses the candidacy of Emily Gabel-Luddy for Burbank City Council, and Armond Aghakhanian, Steve Ferguson, Vahe Hovanessian, and Roberta Reynolds for Board of Education in the upcoming Feb. 24 Primary election.
A total of seven candidates are vying for two seats on the Council, with six other candidates vying for three School Board positions. Depending on the vote tallies, they could be elected to the position, or move on to the April 14 General election.
Emily Gabel-Luddy is a one-term incumbent and has supported issues of concern to the Burbank Armenian community with her votes on the Council dais, familiarizing herself with many of the current issues that confront Armenians worldwide.
“We confronted a couple of unusual challenges in working on our endorsements,” explained ANCA–B co-chair Gaidzag Shahbazian. “In the City Council race, it was a straightforward choice to endorse Emily who has helped our community during her term on Council. We opted not to endorse another candidate for City Council. In the School Board race, we had worked with and had endorsed four of the candidates in prior elections. So, even though there are only three seats up for election, we are endorsing four candidates and asking our supporters to choose three of them that they see as the best choices.”
Armond Aghakhanian is himself an ANCA activist, educator, has long been politically active, and has previously been a candidate for School Board. He brings the passion of a father who wants great schools for his child who will soon start attending Burbank schools. He will serve as a strong voice for the Armenian community’s needs.
Steve Ferguson has been politically active from a very young age, has previously been a candidate for City Council and School Board, and has prior campaign experience. He possesses a thorough understanding of the needs of Burbank’s Armenian community.
Vahe Hovanessian has served on various city committees, has previously been a candidate for City Council, and is an attorney who grew up in the Burbank school system and now has a child attending those same schools. He has been active in Armenian organizations for years.
Roberta Reynolds is a two-term incumbent and pharmacist. Thanks to her efforts, just this past year, Burbank Unified School district adopted as one of its goals the inclusion of Genocide instruction in 10th grade world history classes.

Burbank City leaders and Armenian community gather to celebrate and network
BURBANK, Calif.—The Armenian National Committee of America, Burbank (ANCA-B) hosted its annual Armenian Christmas reception on Jan. 12 at the Burbank Youth Center. Elected officials, including members of the Burbank City Council, Burbank School Board, City Clerk and Treasurer attended the festive dinner, along with city staff, Glendale Mayor, representatives of California Assembly, and many candidates for the upcoming elections for Burbank City Council and School Board. Members of the various organizations that operate out of the Burbank Youth Center also attended.
“This event has been hosted by the ANCA-B for numerous years, and it continues to be a success because it allows members of the Armenian community to meet and discuss important issues with their City officials in a fun setting,” said Gaidzag Shahbazian, co-chair of the ANCA-Burbank. “It provides an informal networking opportunity for attendees and allows them to build connections that will later be used to support the community,” he continued.
The evening began with an opportunity for guests to mingle and enjoy some delicious food provided by Alta Dena Bakery. Mr. Shahbazian welcomed the guests on behalf of the ANCA-Burbank and thanked them for their unwavering support of the ANCA and the Armenian community in Burbank, and recognized the involvement of the Armenian-American community throughout the city. “I am grateful for the officials who support and empower the entire Burbank community, and allow the voices of the citizens to be heard. We’re excited to continue to improve our city through cooperation and grassroots activism,” said Houri Tavitian, member of the ANCA and the committee that organized the reception.
“I enjoy attending the ANCA-B’s Armenian Christmas reception every year because I get to see old faces and meet new ones all while celebrating the holidays with the people who, through tireless and sometimes unrecognized hard work and dedication, help make Burbank such a special place,” said Shahbazian.

ՊԸՐՊԵՆՔ.- Փետրուար 24ին կայանալիք Պըրպենքի նախնական ընտրութեանց սեմին, Պըրպենքի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբը հետեւեալ թեկնածուներուն ի նպաստ քուէարկել կը յանձնարարէ.

ՊԸՐՊԵՆՔ.- Պըրպենքի Երիտասարդական կեդրոնին մէջ, Երկուշաբթի, Յունուար 12ին, Պըրպենքի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբը կազմակերպած էր Հայկական Ս. Ծնունդի իր աւանդական հիւրասիրութիւնը, որուն ներկայ էին Պըրպենքի քաղաքապետական խորհուրդէն անդամներ, քաղաքի այլ պաշտօնակատարներ, Կլենտէյլի քաղաքապետը, Քալիֆորնիոյ նահանգային խորհրդարանի անդամներու ներկայացուցիչներ ու Պըրպենքի մէջ կայանալիք ընտրութեանց շարք մը թեկնածուներ, ինչպէս նաեւ՝ Պըրպենքի Երիտասարդական կեդրոնէն ներս գործող կազմակերպութեանց անդամներ:
Նախ, «Ալթա Տինա Պէյքըրի»ի տրամադրած ճաշերը համտեսելով՝ հիւրերը առիթ ունեցան իրարու հետ զրուցելու, որմէ ետք հիւրասիրութեան բացումը կատարեց Պըրպենքի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբի համաատենապետ Կայծակ Շահպազեան, շեշտելով կարեւորութիւնը լաւ աւանդութեան մը վերածուած սոյն հաւաքներուն, որոնց շնորհիւ Պըրպենքի հայութիւնը առիթ կ՛ունենայ ընկերային հաճելի մթնոլորտի մը մէջ ծանօթանալու քաղաքի պաշտօնատարներուն։
Ան նաեւ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց ներկաներուն, որոնք կը շարունակեն նեցուկ կանգնիլ Պըրպենքի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբին, ինչպէս նաեւ Ամերիկայի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբին։
