Montreal, September 26, 2015: Mélanie Joly, candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, met with representatives of the Quebec Armenian National Committee at a formal dinner which took place on September 16th. During this event, Ms. Joly professed her official support to the Armenian community and committed to promote their efforts in Canada and abroad.
The candidate, who ardently supports the community in recognition of the Armenian Genocide, stated that although much work had been done on the subject, the Canadian population is still unaware of this dark chapter in history. To prevent this tragedy from repeating itself, she has pledged to fight and develop initiatives to educate the population.
Mélanie Joly is also strongly committed to promote the establishment of a Canadian Embassy in Armenia:
“During the 20th century, Canada welcomed thousands and thousands of Armenian immigrants. These people contributed to enriching our country both culturally and politically. Therefore, Canada has an interest to strengthen ties with Armenia, which is why I am committed to create economic and political relations with that country. Canada must have an embassy in Armenia. “
Finally, Ms. Joly recalled the tragedy that Syrians and Iraqis refugees, including many Armenians, had experienced. She emphasized that Canada must do its part to resolve the conflict and reiterated the Liberal Party’s commitment to accept 25,000 Syrian refugees as soon as possible. In addition, we must invest more than $100 million dollars to support the United Nations’ High Commissioner’s position to provide relief programmes to refugees which are of critical importance in the region. Ms. Joly also stated that Canada, which has taken on a military role, must realign its foreign policy towards a diplomatic position and as the chief negotiator of peace on the international scene.

Mélanie Joly réaffirme son soutien à la communauté arménienne
Montréal, le 26 septembre 2015: Mélanie Joly, candidate pour le Parti libéral du Canada dans Ahuntsic-Cartierville, a rencontré les représentants du Comité national arménien du Québec, lors d’un dîner formel qui a eu lieu le 16 septembre dernier. Au cours de cet entretien, Mme Joly a affirmé son soutien formel à la communauté arménienne et s’est engagée à porter ses revendications, au Canada et à l’étranger.
La candidate, qui soutient ardemment la communauté dans la reconnaissance du génocide arménien, a affirmé que même si beaucoup de travail avait été fait sur le sujet, ce sombre épisode de l’histoire était encore trop méconnu par la population Canadienne. Celle-ci s’est engagée à se battre pour mettre sur pied des initiatives pour éduquer la population afin qu’une telle tragédie ne se répète plus jamais.
Mélanie Joly s’est également fortement engagée à promouvoir l’établissement d’une ambassade canadienne en Arménie:
«Le Canada a accueilli, au cours du 20ième siècle, des milliers et des milliers d’Arméniens. Ces personnes ont contribué à enrichir le pays, tant du point de vue culturel que politique. Le Canada a tout intérêt à tisser des liens avec l’Arménie, et c’est pourquoi je m’engage à pousser la création de représentation économique et politique avec ce pays. Le Canada doit se doter d’une ambassade en Arménie.»
Finalement, Mme Joly a rappelé le drame que vivaient les réfugiés Syriens et Irakiens, dont plusieurs Arméniens. Elle a rappelé que le Canada devait faire sa part dans la résolution du conflit et a réitéré l’engagement libéral d’accueillir 25 000 réfugiés syriens le plus tôt possible en plus d’investir 100 millions de dollars de plus en faveur du Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés afin d’apporter un soutien aux activités de secours qui sont d’une importance critique dans la région. Mme Joly a également ajouté que le Canada, qui était devenu de plus en plus interventionniste militairement, devait réaligner sa politique étrangère vers la diplomatie et redevenir le négociateur en chef de la paix sur la scène internationale.
