On saturday, November 22nd, Hagop Deragopian and Ovsanna Kadian from ANCC-WR (Armenian National Committee of Canada Western Region) attended an NDP Cocktail reception for Leader Hon. Thomas Mulcair at the historic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver hosted by local MP Kennedy Stewart.

4 BC (British Colombia) MPs were present: Fin Donnelly, Jinny Sims, Libby Davies, and Kennedy Stewart.

Also attending was recently re-elected Vancouver Councillor Kerry Jang, who represented the City at the unveiling of the Armenian Genocide Monument in April.

The ANCC-WR representatives individually spoke to each MP including Hon. Mulcair about Azerbaijan’s recent provocative helicopter attack and defiant stance which is unchallenged by world bodies and western countries.

The representatives thanked MP Davies for her previous support including voting in favour of Genocide recognition in the House Of Commons in 2004.

While speaking with Hon. Mr. Mulcair, they reminded him of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in April 2015, which he acknowledged with great interest.

They proceeded to invite him to Armenia to join politicians and leaders worldwide who would be attending.

Mulcair expressed a sincere desire to make time for a 3-4 day visit, and they agreed to follow up with each other to make it happen.

During his speech, Hon. Mr. Mulcair talked about the NDP’s significant national child care policy proposal, and about his party’s readiness to take the next step and become the government of Canada after the 2015 elections.
