GLENDALE—On Tuesday, October 25 at 5:30 p.m., the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR) and California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon are cohosting an Appointment Seminar at the Burbank Youth Center located at 75 East Santa Anita Avenue in Burbank. The event will be the final one of a series of workshops and seminars conducted by the Speaker’s Appointments Office throughout California in recent weeks focused on educating Californians about how they can apply to serve on more than 150 California state governing bodies and commissions.
“California is home to a strong and dynamic Armenian community. I’m hoping that members of the community will take part in the upcoming Appointments Seminar and learn how they can apply for positions that help ensure our government acts in the best interest of the public,” said Speaker Rendon. He was first elected in 2012, and selected as Speaker by the State Assembly earlier this year. Speaker Rendon was a former political science college professor, and earned his Ph.D. from UC Riverside, before he went on to become the executive director of a non-profit focused on early childhood education in immigrant communities.
Assembly Member Adrin Nazarian (Sherman Oaks) — who will be honored as Legislator of the Year at the ANCA-WR Annual Gala Banquet on Sunday, October 16 — will introduce the Speaker at the event. Other Armenian American community leaders and organizations, including the Southern California Armenian Democrats (SCAD) and the National Organization of Republican Armenians (NORA) are also supporting the Speaker’s outreach efforts.
“We are grateful to Speaker Rendon for reaching out to the Armenian American community in his effort to ensure that the background of state level commissioners and board members in California reflect the diversity of our population and we are proud to partner with him to provide a platform to community members to learn more about the opportunities to serve on such commissions,” says ANCA-WR Executive Director Elen Asatryan.
The series of events was announced shortly after a meeting between Speaker Rendon, Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon and ANCA-WR leadership, at which time they discussed increasing the level of participation of Armenian Americans in public service and policy-making positions, as well as other priorities for the community.
“SCAD applauds Speaker Rendon’s efforts to educate constituents regarding the appointment process for state boards and commissions, and encourages all community members who are interested in public policy and service to attend the event,” stated SCAD President Mike Matossian.

ԿԼԵՆՏԷՅԼ.- Կազմակերպութեամբ Արեւմտեան Ամերիկայի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբին եւ Քալիֆորնիոյ նահանգային խոր-հրդարանի նախագահ Էնթընի Ռենտոնի գրասենեակին, Երեքշաբթի, Հոկտեմբեր 25ին, երեկոյեան ժամը 5։30ին տեղի պիտի ունենայ նահանգային աւելի քան 150 կառավարման մարմիններու կամ յանձնաժողովներու անդամակցութեան կարելիութիւններուն նուիրուած ներկայացում մը՝ Պըրպենքի Երիտասարդական կեդրոնին մէջ (75 East Santa Anita Avenue)։
Ներկայացումը մաս կը կազմէ Քալիֆորնիոյ նահանգային խոր-հրդարանի նախագահի գրասենեակին նախաձեռնած աշխատանիստներուն, որոնց նպատակն է քաղաքացիներուն հարկաւոր լուսաբանութիւններ կատարել՝ նման մարմիններու անդամակցութեան կարելիութիւններուն կապակցութեամբ։
«Նկատի ունենալով, որ Քալիֆորնիոյ մէջ կ՛ապրի աշխոյժ հայ համայնք մը, յոյս ունիմ, որ մեծ թիւով հայեր իրենց մասնակցութիւնը կը բերեն այս ձեռնարկին, որպէսզի իմանան, թէ ինչպէ՛ս կրնան դիմել այս մարմիններու անդամակցութեան, որ իր կարգին, պիտի երաշխաւորէ, որ կառավարութիւնը աւելիով աշխատի՝ ի շահ հանրութեան», կը յայտնէ Ռենտոն։
Ձեռնարկին ընթացքին, Քալիֆորնիոյ նահանգային խորհրդարանի անդամ Ատրին Նազարեան մասնակիցներուն պիտի ներկայացնէ Ռենտոնը, որուն կողմէ հայութեան հետ յարաբերութիւնները սերտացնելու համար տարուած ջանքերուն կ՛աջակցին նաեւ շրջանի հայկական շարք մը այլ կազմակերպութիւններ, ներառեալ՝ Հարաւային Քալիֆորնիոյ հայ դեմոկրատները եւ Հայ հանրապետականներու ազգային կազմակերպութիւնը։
Արեւմտեան Ամերիկայի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբի գործադիր վարիչ Էլէն Ասատրեան ողջունեց Ռենտոնի գրասենեակին այս նախաձեռնութիւնը, միաժամանակ շեշտելով, որ նահանգային յանձնաժովներու եւ կառավարման մարմիններու մէջ հայերու ներկայութիւնը նպաստաւոր պիտի ըլլայ թէ՛ նահանգի իշխանութեանց եւ թէ քալիֆորնիահայութեան համար։
Այս ներկայացումներուն մղիչ ուժը եղած էին Ռենտոնի, Քալիֆորնիոյ նահանգային խորհրդարանի մեծամասնութեան ղեկավար Իըն Քալտերոնի եւ Արեւմտեան Ամերիկայի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբի ղեկավարութեան միջեւ տեղի ունեցած խորհրդակցութիւնները, որոնց ընթացքին շեշտուած էր նահանգի քաղաքական կեանքին մէջ հայութեան մասնակցութեան զարկ տալու կարեւորութիւնը։
